Manchester United are looking to sign Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid as the defender becomes a free agent by this summer and United could join the race for his signatures after no contract talks between Ramos and Real Madrid have occurred.
Clubs in the race
Manchester City are looking to sign Ramos on a free but are still in initial stages. Moreover, United are much ahead in talks with Ramos and a deal looks on the cards if everything goes through. Ramos could sign a new contract with Real Madrid as well if other clubs do not offer deals that tempt the Spaniard.
Terms of the deal
United are looking to match his current paycheck with a reported 463,000 pounds per week being offered to Ramos at Real Madrid. Reports in Spain claimed that Madrid and Ramos couldn’t agree on terms because of a substantial pay cut due to the current financial environment for the club. However, this offer is relatively high and United will need to keep an eye on their wage bill with very high wages to several players.
Ramos’ role at United
United lacked a leader in their team since a long time until Bruno Fernandes was signed from Sporting CP but still it shows that United need other leaders in the squad with the mentality to win. Ramos may not be at the peak of his ability but surely he can provide the club a mental edge. Sergio has won several trophies including the World Cup and even scored crucial goals in Champions League finals to hand Real Madrid the win. Ramos is the leader that United are missing right now.
Ramos shows no sign of stopping in La Liga, he looks as confident as he was a few years ago. United definitely need a second centre back to partner with Harry Maguire. Bailly is an effective option but he isn’t a match for Ramos in terms of pure quality. Ramos is arguably the best defender right now with Virgil Van Dijk out injured. A player like that could make United compete on all fronts and bring them back to former glory.
Goal scoring ability
Ramos steps up whenever the tema requires the most, he is one of those players that can score despite bing a defender. United’s attack is powerful right now but when needed Ramos could strike with a deadly header in injury time to win games.
Adapting to the Premier League is quite difficult for a player who has seen used to the same conditions all his life, especially with the physicality but we know that Sergio Ramos is a name that reminds you of last minute goals, and physical prowess. United could finally complete their title winning puzzle with him in the squad.
