Former Red joins MUFC first-team coaching setup

Former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher have joined the club as a first-team coach. Fletcher, who has been coaching the U16’s since October has now been given the opportunity to coach United’s first-team.

Darren Fletcher was a Manchester United academy graduate. And went on to make over 340 appearances for United’s first-team during his 20 years at the club. As a player, Darren won five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup. He also made 80 first-team appearances for his National team Scotland.

Here is what he had to say after being appointed first-team coach,

I am delighted to be returning to the club as a first-team coach. It’s a very exciting time for this young team and I am looking forward to taking the next steps in my coaching career by working with Ole and his staff.

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was very happy and excited on the prospect of working with his old team mate once again at the club they both love. According to Ole, Darren’s qualities make him apt for the role of Manchester United’s first-team coach. Talking to MUTV, Ole reacts to Darren Fletcher’s appointment as the first-team coach.

Darren has the United DNA running through his veins and he knows exactly what it takes to be a Manchester United player.

He is at the start of his coaching career and his experience both on and off the pitch along with his winning mentality, commitment and hard work will be a great addition to the staff.

Fletcher was a brilliant midfielder during his time at United as a player. His experience and knowledge about the game will only help our first-team players improve. Let’s hope his addition to the first-team coaching setup helps us dominate the game and continue on our great run as well.
