Manchester United faced Brighton in their 2nd fixture of the Premier League campaign. Manchester United managed to beat Brighton 3-2 in the last kick of the game. Brighton dominated United in almost every aspect of the game. They had more possession, attempts as well as shots on target and passing accuracy. It was a dramatic match which came right down to the end and Bruno’s penalty gave United all the 3 points.
David De Gea 6/10
De Gea did not have much to do this game. He was beaten on 5 occasions but the post came to his rescue. He did make a good save towards the end to keep United ahead in the game only for March to equalise in the 95th minute.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka : 4/10
Wan-Bissaka had a quite game today. It was his fault for the second goal as he failed to track March’s run from the backpost. He had little to none going forward and gave away one or two fouls as well. He does not looks match fit and hope so he could come back strong for our next fixture against Tottenham on 4th of October.
Victor Lindelof : 4/10
Another dreadful performance from Victor Lindelof. Many eyebrows were raised as to why he started given Bailly performed well in the EFL tie against Luton Town. He did not look comfortable being 1 v 1 against attackers and his ball distribution wasn’t good either. Bailly should have been given a chance ahead of him.
Harry Maguire : 6/10
Maguire had a relatively good game among the other defenders. He contributed in two of the goals that United scored. Firsty forcing Dunk to score an own goal and secondly to secure the penalty in the final seconds of the game. His ball distribution was okay as well but his lack of pace troubled us. The defence looked leaky yet again and as captain he should take responsibilty for it.
Luke Shaw : 6/10
In comparison to Wan-Bissaka, Shaw had a good game. He got us the free kick for the first goal. He was up and down the left hand side and made decent overlapping runs. Defensively he looked shaky at times but not the worst perfomance as well.
Nemanja Matic : 7/10
Matic was key to our victory. He helped the defensive unit on numerous occasions and surely one of our better players today. We might have scrapped up a victory if he played instead of McTominay the other game but it shows his importance to the side.
Paul Pogba : 3/10
Pogba is one of our best players when fit but not today. He was poor, misplaced several passes and Ole substituted him the 63rd minute for Fred. He is not completely match fit and looks tired. Ole should have started Van de Beek in place of him. He is crucial to our creativity and we struggled to break into Brighton’s defence without him playing well.
Bruno Fernandes : 7/10
He gave away the penalty for Brigton’s first goal and his passing was a bit off today. Even then he contributed to all of the United’s goal. The freekick, assisst to Rashford and the final penalty to give United the 3 points. My man of the match because not many players can put it into top bin in the final kick of the game and the pressure he had on his shoulders. Not his best game but still contributing.
Mason Greenwood : 5/10
Not his best performance as well. He had a goal ruled out because of offside. Didn’t do much in the final third. Certainly better than Dan James but we expect more from him.
Anthony Martial : 5/10
An average game from Tony Martial. Had some good interchanging passes with Greenwood and Rashford but no final output out of it. Hope so he could get his first goal of the PL campaign in the next match.
Marcus Rashford : 6/10
He was poor but his goal was brilliant. A moment of individual brilliance from Marcus Rashford. 2 goals in 2 games, hope so he can kick on from here and lit up the Premier League soon.
Fred : 6/10
He replaced Paul Pogba in the 63rd minute of the game. Played decently till the final minute of the game.
Eric Bailly : 6/10
He replaced Anthony Martial for defensive cover in the final 10-15 minutes of the game. Did nothing wrong. Hardly anytime for him to make an impact.
Donny van de Beek : N/A
Came on in the final minutes of the game. Not enough time for him to make an impact. Subsituted in for time wasting to see out the game. Probably should have started instead of Paul Pogba.
Poor game from United. Lacking creativity and midfielder struggled to complete basic midfield passes. Defence was leaky as well. Brighton hit the post for a record 5 times. Many might argue Brighton should have scored 5 to 6 times. We cannot rely on luck for results and we were outclassed by a mid to lower table team, no disrespect to Brighton. We hardly went on 3rd gear and were very poor. Very disappointed as a United fan with the performance but 3 points nonetheless although undeservingly. Onto the next match. GGMU!
