Manchester United edged past LASK in their UEFA Europa League round of 16 2nd leg game at Old Trafford. Though United have comfortably qualified for the quarters with a 7-1 aggregate scoreline against LASK, the Austrian side did put up a decent fight.
The match ended 2-1 to United, with Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial scoring the goals. LASK managed to score the first goal of the match with a stunning strike by Weisinger which was literally unstoppable by Romero. Lingard managed to grab an equaliser just 2min after. And Martial came off the bench and scored the winning goal as United clinched a win.
Let us look at the ratings of every player that played a part in yesterday’s match :
Sergio Romero : 7/10
Romero looked very calm and composed as he always does. His movements were brilliant and knew exactly when to come off his line and when not to. Excellent decision making. The goal LASK scored was only Romero’s first goal conceded in this whole competition.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah : 4/10
Fosu-Mensah has looked shady everytime he has started for United post restart. His attacking play was poor and couldn’t actually coverup LASK’s left flank as well. He lost possession several times and looked confused on the ball.
Eric Bailly : 7/10
Bailly had a great day alongside Maguire in the defence. He was strong and clinical in defence. And his arial clearances were also pretty good. He managed to play out the full match getting valuable game time under his belt.
Harry Maguire : 7/10
Maguire also had a good day in the office. He looked very much in control on the ball and was a commanding figure in United’s defence. United had 2 chances in the first half and both were Maguire’s headers from corners which he couldn’t get on target.
Brandon Williams : 6/10
Brandon had an average game all together. He did manage to find space and make darting runs through the left flank, but weren’t fruitful. A day when almost every United frontman looked bad providing final balls, Williams also had the same faith running through the left wing.
Fred : 6/10
Fred looked good majority of the game before being replaced by Pereira later in the second half. He had a good first half whereas all other United midfielders had a below par half. His performance dropped in the second half which led to him being replaced.
Scott McTominay : 5/10
McTominay didn’t have a great day after a poor first half performance. He partially compensated for that by doing a tad better in the second half. McTominay lost possession pretty frequently in the midfield giving LASK chances to attack.
Jesse Lingard : 7/10
Everyone had high expectations of Jesse Lingard today after he scored and broke his jinx of not scoring for a whole Premier League season. He started off well in the attacking midfield position. And was switching positions with Mata on the right wing. After going a goal down in the second half, Lingard stepped up to score the equaliser for United.
Juan Mata : 7/10
Mata looked really rusty after not having a lot of game time throughout this season. This reflected on him as he lost possession and couldn’t receive passes correctly. He gradually got better as the game progressed and managed to provide the assist for both United goals.
Daniel James : 5.5/10
James had an average game where he got spaces to make a lot of forward runs with the ball and cross. Though he made all those darting runs, his final balls was below par and thus weren’t productive.
Odion Ighalo : 5/10
Ighalo had an unsatisfactory day due to several reasons. The Nigerian did get some chances to score goals but all were difficult chances. And also, all deliveries into the box from both flanks were pretty below par and thus Odion had an unproductive day.

Anthony Martial : 7/10
Martial came on after he begged Ole for him to be brought in. As he felt he could exploit LASK’s defence with his skills. And he did the same after he got the ball outside the box, dribbled into the box and a great finish. And United led for the first time during the match.
Tiden Mengi : 6/10
The 18 year old academy graduate didn’t have a lot to play as he only had some touches on the ball. After the match, Ole was all praise for him and believes he has found a talent in the 18 year old.
Tahith Chong : 7/10
Chong had a great game looking at him not having lot of chances at this level lately. He quickly adjusted with the game and created several chances playing in an unfamiliar left back position replacing Williams.
Andreas Pereira : 7/10
Pereira really looked good and very much in control today. He didn’t look troubled by the LASK defence at all and was also playing great one-twos with Chong and creating chances at ease.
Paul Pogba : 7/10
Pogba looked very much in control from the time he got on. Suddenly with his introduction, United’s attack gained pace and the team started creating chances in quick succession.
With this win, United now go into the quarter finals to face FC Copenhagen who have qualified to the semis for the first time. United should be confident going into the fixture on Monday with the full squad and also having had players get valuable game time in this match as well.
