Manchester United are back at Old Trafford as they face a confident Southampton side later tonight.
United on a great run of form and have lost only 2 points since restart. In addition, United will look to extend their unbeaten run to 18 when they face Southampton.
On the other hand, Southampton are also looking in good shape. Post restart, they have managed to win 3 of their 5 games, loosing 1 and drawing 1. They have also defeated the defending Champions, Manchester City 1-0 at home after restart.
Ole during his pre-match press conference hinted at naming an unchanged XI against Southampton as he feel there is no need to fix something when it ain’t broken.
Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe remain the only absentees and Ole will have every other player to choose from when we face Southampton.
Victor Lindelof, who was a doubt to start at Villa Park after he had a back problem against Bournemouth, did start for United and played full 90mins at Villa Park. Thus, Lindelof is also certain to start.
Southampton’s head coach, Ralph Hasenhuttl expects Jannik Vestergaard to return from a thigh injury when they face United.
However, Moussa Djenepo, Sofiane Boufal and Yan Valery will miss out due to their long term injuries and are not expected to play any part in the season again as well.
The coach feels as the teams will only have a short break before next season, thus pushing players to come back from injuries won’t do good. Therefore, he wants to give them sufficient time to return from injury.
Manchester United and Southampton have faced off 41 times before in the Premier League, with United winning 26 times and Southampton winning 7 times. 8 matches has also ended in draws.
Southampton’s last win over United came in Jan 2016, when they won 1-0 at Old Trafford. Charlie Austin scored a late 87th minute goal to separate the two sides.
That Southampton side consisted of Virgil van Dijk and also Sadio Mane who have gone on to become important players in Liverpool’s title triumph this season. And also their European triumph last season as well.

It was a physical battle and we saw several players getting booked that day. Southampton player, Kevin Danso was given a second yellow card for a foul on Scott McTominay and was sent off.
A win for United tonight will promote them to the 3rd spot in the league table after both Chelsea and Leicester City suffered defeats in the hands of Sheffield United and Bournemouth respectively.
Southampton on the other hand will be pushing for a top 10 finish as they are currently 12th in the league. Danny Ings looks to be in the form of his life scoring 19 league goals already this season.
Looking at the form United are in currently, we expect a 3-1 Manchester United victory. United will be a force to reckon with at Old Trafford. And Southampton will have to be at their best to give United a fight.
